You receive an emergency distress call from a young alien boy. Can you help him?

"Keep Breathing" is a choices matter visual novel created for the July 2024 O2A2 Game Jam, over the course of 10 days.

The game has 3 endings.

This is my first ever publication, and the first ever game that I have managed to complete. My perfectionism tells me that it could've been much more if I had just worked harder, but I hope anyone who plays it enjoys it nonetheless ;w;

Note: Using the web-player may cause the game to launch in a pop-up for certain browsers (including, but not limited to, Firefox). This is to hopefully improve load times and prevent visual glitches.

Stay safe <3

!!! CONTENT / TRIGGER WARNINGS !!!

"Keep Breathing" deals with various topics which may be sensitive to some people. These topics include:

  • Mentions/talk of abusive home life (verbal/emotional/hints towards physical)
  • Teenager running away
  • Portrayal of self harm scars (not in focus; main character/sprite just has them on his arm)
  • Possible death (by suffocation/oxygen depletion)
  • General themes of depression, anxiety, feeling alien.

I really like the style of everything. It all fit and enhanced the setting you were going for.

I got ending 2 first and was like: NOOOOOOOOO MY SPACE CHILD

The story, despite its heartache, was very nice and hopeful. You did a really good job. Be proud. It's your first completed game, after all :)

This was really sweet. Despite the subject matter and backstory, the music and general art style really made this into a softer package, which accentuates the connection to especially childhood trauma really well. I liked it :3

Sadly browser performance seems to be a small issue for me (Firefox) with frame stutters and laggy UI, but nothing that would make the game unplayable, luckily!

;o; tysm for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it !!

I'll have to look look if I can optimise it better for browser play 🤔 but I'm glad it's not unplayable atm heh. Tysm for the feedback, I genuinely appreciate it 💜
